About me

Hello all. My name is Malcolm Bason, but I prefer to be called Malc. As of this year (2025) I am 70 years old, but I began my passion for photography in my teens. The only thing holding me back these days is that I no longer drive, so I am limited as to where I can get to - either by getting a lift, walking or catching a bus.

In the old days I used to develop and print my own black & white images using Ilford FP4 & HP5 35mm film. I did colour also of course, mostly using Kodachrome 64 for slides. My early SLR cameras were a Practika, Cosina's CS3 and CT4, and I then moved on to a Pentax ME Super.

Then came the digital revolution, and I bought and stuck with Canon DSLR cameras, starting with a 2000D. Over the years I swapped and changed about; always looking to get more out of my cameras and out of photography. The very last DSLR I bought was a Canon 90D, which was an excellent camera.

For me then, Mirrorless became the norm, and my most recent Canon purchase was the EOS R7 which I used mainly for photographing football matches for my local team, Woodford United FC. However in my chase for more mega pixels and a full frame camera, (the R7 has an aps-c crop sensor), I opted for a complete change and bought myself a Sony A7iv which has a 33mp full frame sensor. (I did have a Sony once before for a while, but it had buffering issues, so I sold it on). But the A7iv is a brilliant camera; it's auto focus is second to none. I like it very much, and will be sticking with it to use alongside my 28-70mm & 70-200mm Sony lenses.
